General Overview:

The website was introduced in 2002 with the aim of providing an additional point of access for those interested in the LongMarch, it's history and the people who devote their time and efforts to organising the event year after year.

We have tried to provide as much information as possible and are always open to new ideas and suggestions. Please feel free to use the contact form and let us know what you think.

Please note that all information and images used on this website (with the exception of third party sponsor graphics and Christian Aid Logos) are the property of the LongMarch Committee. For full copyright details please click here.

A full list of committee members can be found here.

Technical Details:

The site is built using html, php, javascript, stylesheets and a mysql database. All graphics used in the layout of the site have been produced using Adobe Photoshop.

The Committee Mail service is powered by DWMail from Dominion Web, and the site search facility is powered by RiSearch PHP.

All other programming (including the layout templates and the Committee Centre) has been carried out by the site creator.

Site Creator:

Name: Andrew Lees-Wolfenden
Role: Website development and administration
Responsibilites:
  • Layout design
  • Graphics
  • PHP coding
  • MYSQL databse design and implentation
  • Iintegration of third party scripts (webmail and site search)
  • Update editing and promotion
  • New feature development and implementation
Why?: Having worked on a few small commercial sites, the idea of developing a site from scratch to promote a well-established event presented a huge learning opportunity, and has proven to be a highly benneficial experience.

I continue to learn something everytime I add a new feature or upgrade an existing one, and the more I do with the site the more potential I see. Who knows where this will end.
