Child alcoholic discovers music!

Rudy grew up in a violent home. By the age of eight he was an alcoholic. Violent and aggressive, he found it hard to make and keep friends

Now 16 his life has been turned around. Caja Lúdica's arts workshops have taught him to respect himself and others, and control his temper. He's also discovered music, and is an excellent guitarist.

With soaring violence, Guatemala now has the highest murder rate in the Americas. Christian Aid’s partner, Caja Lúdica, uses arts and carnival activities to promote a culture of peace in communities rocked by bloodshed. Their weapons are music, dance and carnival, and their battle plan is to recapture public spaces for enjoyment and togetherness.

It costs £21,000 a year to help Caja Lúdica to do its vital work - the amount we’re hoping the 44th Halifax Long March will raise.

Thank you for taking part in this challenge to help others like Rudy.

Every penny you raise counts

Here in the UK £10 could get you a DVD. In Bangladesh it could provide a family with a disaster survival kit, providing food, clothes, medicines and other essentials.

£15 could pay for coaching in carnival skills such as juggling, stilt walking and acrobatics through Caja Lúdica, reducing gang violence in slum communities.

£25 is a primary school teacher’s monthly salary for Batwa (a discriminated minority) children in Burundi.
